It was a sultry evening and the moon was high. I felt restless and called my Mother to see if she wanted to go for a midnight drive to Birch Island.

We walked the beach shore and marveled at the beauty of the moonlight and Northern Lights casting a magnificent reflection on the river's softly rippling surface.

Moonlight softly coloured the surrounding hills and forest.

We laughed at some forgotten joke and startled a goose that was resting in a sheltered area. It flew/ran across the waters, scronking its call, flapping feet sending up sprays of iridescent droplets. It seemingly headed for the Northern Lights reflected in the water, instead of appreciating the beauty that it itself created.

We laughed again.

It was a magical sight and memory.
