Something Unknown approaches.

She knows not what it is, but the woman is aware.
Totally aware and apprehensive of “It.”

She stands her ground, arms and voice raised in alarm, calling out the danger. The children scurry safely inside.

The man, uncaring, ignores her warnings.
Eyes on another prize, he hurries the opposite way;
into danger, seeking and chasing this brass ring.

Was he hungering for its beauty, or for use as an amulet of protection?
