Nuliajuk, Sedna, The Goddess of The Sea
2000
Black wool stroud, smoke tanned caribou hide, various materials, found objects
32 x 35 inches

The spirits of sea and land birds inhabit this place. At Nuliajuk’s command they are ready to ensnare the unwary.

A shaman respectfully approaches, his Being ready to be devoured. But his people are hungry, they need his skills to calm Nuliajuk.

Transformed, he makes his way to the depths of the ocean. It is here, he gently braids the goddess’s hair. Now, calm, she once again releases her creatures to the Upper World.
