My elder brother and my cousin took me on a winter caribou hunt. We travelled by skidoo and komatik. We set up our tent deep within the spruce trees on the Mealy Mountain foothills.

That day we harvested two caribou and took them back to our campsite to prepare. Early that fine Labrador evening, by the light of the glowing golden moon and the campfire flames, the deed was complete. Meat for many during the winter.

I created this piece to honour the caribou and their spirit. Also, it was also to honour the teachings of my brother and cousin and to those whom those teachings came.
